Mapping the Interior: Gendered Spaces and the Haunting Feminine in Akam (2013)
Keywords:
Gendered space, Haunting feminineAbstract
This paper explores how Akam (2013) constructs gendered spaces to represent feminine subjectivity and psychological depth. It examines how domestic and interior environments function as extensions of the female psyche, creating a haunting presence that challenges conventional portrayals of women. The study argues that the film disrupts traditional visual access to women by presenting femininity as both spatial and spectral, thereby redefining cinematic representation through ambiguity and emotional complexity.
